My name is Alexa and I'm 20 years old. I weigh 18 stone, and am a size 20 in English clothes size. After trying various methods of weight loss and succeeding sometimes and failing in others, I have decided to try the Lighterlife programme, which involves a 14 week period of drinking only water and eating vitamins and supplements in soups and food packs. Lighterlife boasts that you can expect to loose a stone every month on their programme. Think it sounds a bit drastic? So did I until I went along to one of their free information sessions. The diet is simply a very low calorie diet (VLC) and together with the vitamin packs, you're probably better nourished than when you eat normally. But here's the key. The core to the programme is the hourly counselling sessions in which you meet up once a week, not only to be weighed, but to receive counselling with the other members of your group for what is, effectively, an eating disorder. After the period of 14 weeks, you go into a management stage which continues the counselling and helps you to go back to eating normally, hopefully avoiding the piling back on of pounds after a wonderful diet.
I'm a little aprehensive about the whole process. I've read some good things and some bad things about the programme and seen some amazing results. I've created this diary to keep a record of how I feel, to note the changes in my body, and just basically somewhere to vent things. I hope that this diary will be useful to anybody else who is thinking of trying the programme, or for any people who are on the programme and need to see another person's perspective, or also just want to chat about how things are going!
My life is about to change in the next few weeks, hopefully for the better, and it will be good to have a few people in the livejournal community to help along the way!
